DAY 1: RECEPTION AND TRANSFER TO THE HOSTEL – AFTERNOON CITY TOUR
Machu Picchu Hike will be waiting for you to arrive to the imperial city of Cusco to take you to the hostel of your choice. The hostel will welcome you with a Peruvian typical beverage (mate de coca) and you will have the morning to acclimatize. We will then pick up your party at hostel at 13:00 P.M. so we can have the city tour or the combination excursion in the city and its surroundings, this tour will begin with a guided visit to different places like:
QURIKANCHA’S TEMPLO OR THE SANTO DOMINGO CONVENT: This place was a ceremonial religious place also known as the “Temple of the Sun”, it is an example of the great pre-Columbian engineering that was used for construction and architecture.
THE CATHEDRAL: Inside this building we will contemplate cuzqueñan paintings like cloth linens, gold decorations, colonial walls, and more.
SAKSAYWAMAN: This archeological site is located 3 Km. form the imperial city of Cusco, the meaning of its name, Saksaywaman, is satisfied hawk. It was an incredible fortress made with huge stones and excellent architecture. Saksaywaman is also famous for its gigantic worked stones, some of them are 30 feet high and they weight more than a ton.
QENQO: The translation of the word Qenqo means labyrinth. Qenqo was a ceremonial place, and it is said that it was an amphitheater where animal sacrifices were made (the black llama).
TAMBOMACHAY: This place was a precinct for very important Incas, used to relax, as a spiritual retired place for the cult to the water.
We will return to Cusco and this is going to be the end of our first day with the Machu Picchu Ecological Adventure package.
DAY 2: MORAY CIRCUIT - SALT MINES
Our representatives of Machu Picchu Peru Tours will pick up your party at the hostel at 8:15 A.M. to continue your trip, Machu Picchu Ecological Adventure, taking you and your party to visit the first scheduled archeological center: Moray or “Muray” (Quechua), the only site in its genre. Here we will gaze into the different terraces and aqueducts that were use in experimental agriculture for the old Tahuantinsuyo. As many other Incan sites, that also have a sophisticated irrigation systems, each level (platform) served as a great spot for seeding given its climatological conditions. It was an important center for domestication, acclimation and hybridization of many wild vegetable species, which were modified and adapted for the consumption by humans.
After exploring the Moray circuit, we will head our way to the salt mines. Salt is acquired in Maras by the process of evaporating salt water, which comes from local subterranean current. There are more than 5000 salt holes administered by the town; this salt is treated for human consumption.
We will return to Cusco and this is going to be the end of our second day with the Machu Picchu Ecological Adventure package.
DAY 3: THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS – MACHU PICCHU
Our representatives of Machu Picchu Hike will pick up your party at the hostel at 8:00 A.M. so that our excursion can start with a guided tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. In this route we will have time to appreciate the different colorful towns, as well as stopping in places like Corao, where we will have the opportunity to appreciate the inhabitants art with textiles and ceramics. After that, we will stop at the Taray gazer, having the panoramic view of the Vulcanite River, the Salkantay mountains and the Pisaq Mountain. The next stops in our trip will be in two beautiful towns:
PISAC: A typical Andean town full of artisans and an archeological site where the famous Artisan Fairs take place. We will visit the fairs, the typical markets and the archeological site. We are also having lunch in the tourist restaurant in Urubamba.
OLLANTAYTAMBO: It was a center for agriculture, administration, social, religious and military gatherings in the time of the Tahuantinsuyo. It is conformed by temples and platforms, and it is united by a complete system of irrigation.
After visiting the Sacred Valley of the Incas, we will head to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where we will take the train that is going to take us to Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu. After arriving to the town, our transfer is going to take you to the hostel that you chose, and this is going to be the end of our third day with the Machu Picchu Ecological Adventure package.
DAY 4: GUIDED VISIT TO MACHU PICCHU
The Machu Picchu Ecological Adventure package offers the visit to the most important archeological site of South America: Machu Picchu. Breakfast is included in the hostel and the bus trip to the Incan los city of Machu Picchu.
Our guide will give you a 3-hour tour approx. in the most important places in the Incan Empire. After this guided tour, you and your party are going to have some free time to wander freely throughout the archeological park, after coordinating with your guide. In this adventure you will experience the magical energies that surrounds this beautiful site. We will enjoy a guided excursion of the principal buildings of the Incan citadel and the agricultural, urban, military, artisanal areas, as well as the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Condor, the Temple of the Sun, and much more.
After this magical tour we are going to have lunch in the town of Aguas Calientes, in a tourist restaurant. After that, our transfer will arrange transportation to the train station to board towards Ollantaytambo. Afterwards we will take the bus back to Cusco and this is going to be the end of our forth day with the Machu Picchu Ecological Adventure package.
DAY 5: SOUTH VALLEY OF THE CUSCO CIRCUIT – TIPON – PIKILLACTA
The word Cusco means “Navel of the World”, and it seems to be a great center of tourism and the destination of thousands of tourists. Machu Picchu Hike presents you another circuit called South Valley of the Cusco Circuit, where we will find beautiful towns like: Tipón, Pikillacta, Rumicolqa and Andahuaylillas, all of these are evidence of the cultural duality of the old capital of the Incan Empire.
TIPON: In this archeological center we will observe an exceptional hydraulic system with irrigation channels that go vertically and horizontally all over the step-like terraces. In this place you will also see how the water flows from the underground to a center that distributes it by the said channels. It was a very important agricultural site.
PIQUILLACTA: Archeological center form the pre-Incan era, just 18 Km. southwest from the imperial city of Cusco, where we can still appreciate the wide streets constructed by the Waris culture. The lake of Huacarpay can also be seen here, place that houses a great amount of birds.
ANDAHUAYLILLAS: We will visit this famous church, considered the “Sistine Chapel of America”, which exhibits beautiful samples of colonial art with golden altars, colorful murals, cuzqueñan paintings and baroque still ceilings.
On our way back, we will stop at the town of Saylla, typical cuzqueñan town where we are going to enjoy their delicious pork skins (optional).
DAY 6:TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT
With previous coordination with the company, we will pick up your party at the hostel to take you to your flight.
